Epic Verse Brand Story

The modern durag as we know it today began to emerge in the 1970s. It became popular among African American men as a way to maintain waves or "360 waves," a hairstyle characterized by deep, wavelike curls. The durag was worn to help set and maintain these waves, as well as to keep the hair neat and in place. In addition to its practical use, the durag also took on cultural significance. It became associated with hip-hop culture and the urban fashion scene, with many hip-hop artists and rappers incorporating it into their style. The durag became associated with authenticity and expression, representing a connection to one's roots and a sense of pride in one's identity.

However, the durag also faced its share of stigma and negative stereotypes. In some circles, it was associated with gang affiliation or criminality. Despite this, the durag persisted as a staple in African American fashion and culture. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the durag, not only within the African American community but also in mainstream fashion. It has been embraced by people of all backgrounds as a stylish accessory, worn not only to maintain hairstyles but also as a fashion statement. Celebrities and influencers have helped popularise the durag, further cementing its place in contemporary fashion and culture.

Why was Epic Verse established?

The emergence of Epic Verse was not a coincidence but a long-planned inevitability. In the current market, there's no dedicated brand catering to the niche culture of minorities. With the rise of the Black Panther and the occurrences of the BLM movement, there's a pressing need for more empowerment and elevation of the status and image of black people. We envision our headscarf brand to be an "epic" level revelation, akin to a powerful "verse" in hip-hop music, becoming a turning point in black culture. And it’s not just black culture, we want to give a voice to all niche cultures. We would like to donate part of the proceeds to children in impoverished areas.

Our mission:

We don’t “stand for” black people, we stand with black people. We don’t “represent” black culture, we re-present black culture.

What is our logo mean?

Our logo is a combination of a poundkey # and a Möbius strip, resembling a floating magic carpet. The # pound key symbolizes infinite extension in all directions, while the Möbius strip signifies eternal infinity. Our durag is like a magic carpet; although it's worn on the head, your thoughts will float freely with the carpet, your mind is unrestricted and liberated.

Our slogan:

"Make your head duragged, let your mind flow."
